THA DIS-SO-SEE-A-TIVES TO RELEASE DVD

The Dissociatives ... hard to say but easy to enjoy.

The band's self titled album was the most acclaimed Australian release of this year. It drew comparisons to everyone from the Beatles and Brian Wilson to Radiohead, Brian Eno and ... um ... The Buggles. The album was also a commerical success yielding two top 40 singles and being certified gold within a week of its release.

The Dissociatives recently received six ARIA nominations including "Album Of The Year" and "Best Group" while their visual guru, James Hackett, walked away with the awards for "Best Artwork" and "Best Video".

The three remarkable animated filmclips James created with Daniel Johns and Paul Mac will be one of the features on a new DVD entitled "Sydney Circa 2004Slash08".

This release will also feature The Dissociatives live concert from Sydney's Enmore Theatre as filmed by Channel V and the ABC during the band's national tour. While some of this show was previously broadcast on TV, the DVD will include several songs that were omitted from that airing - including the group's barnstorming cover of Tom Waits' "Goin' Out West".

"The Dissociatives tour was really special", explains the group's co-creator, Paul Mac. "There are lots of places where we didn't get to play shows so hopefully this DVD will allow people who missed the gigs to get a sense for how much fun they were."

If you missed out on these gigs or if you were there but have a really bad memory, here's what some press people had to say about The Dissociatives live experience ....

"an almost bizarre but amazing performance", Drum Media

"The Dissociatives preset their controls for the heart of the sun with their happy psychedelic pop", RAVE

"an intriguing balance of eclectic pop and dance experimentalism that takes from the likes of the Flaming Lips but also has its own style", BRAG

"easily one of the best shows I've seen in the last couple of years", dB

"grand and surprising", Beat

The Dissociatives' "Sydney Circa 2004slash08" - featuring their Enmore Theatre concert and the videos for "Somewhere Down The Barrell", "Young Man, Old Man" and "Horror With Eyeballs" - will be released in Australia on October 18.

**Please note that there won't be an NTSC version of this release.

DISSO'S CHANGE TOUR PLANS

The Dissociatives have had to withdraw from performances planned over the next three nights due to a throat infection which has temporarily affected Daniel Johns' ability to sing.

The group performed in Brisbane last night even though Daniel's condition meant that his singing was not up to his usual standard. Daniel began the show by explaining the situation and apologizing to the very enthusiastic crowd. He told the audience that the band had considered cancelling the show, but had decided to 'soldier on'.

Unfortunately last night's performance has now left Daniel completely hoarse. A local specialist has advised him that his voice will only return to normal if he rests it completely for a few days so this has meant that the next three shows on the tour will not happen as planned.

The concert at Twin Towns Services Club in Tweed Heads has been rescheduled to Thursday July 22. Little Birdy will now not appear on this date but The Presets will appear. Fans seeking refunds as a result of this change of date or lineup should contact the club.

The shows planned at West Tamworth Leagues and Panthers, Port Macquarie over coming days unfortunately cannot be rescheduled due to venue availability issues. Refunds will be available from the places of purchase.

The Dissociatives and their management would like to sincerely apologize to everybody who has been inconvenienced by this change of plans. The decision has not been made lightly. According to medical advice Daniel's condition is typical of the common, but severe, throat infections that affect hundreds of thousands of Australians every winter. With medication and some rest it should pass very quickly and he will be able to resume live performances next week.

Remaining shows on the Dissociatives/Little Birdy national tour are therefore as follows:

Tuesday June 29 - Winternational Music Festival, Perth
Friday July 2 - Blacktown RSL
Saturday July 3 - Newcastle Entertainment Centre
Sunday July 4 - Mingarra Recreation Club, Central Coast NSW

& shows without Little Birdy :

Sat July 10 - "Bass In The Grass" Festival , Darwin
Thursday July 22 - Twin Towns Services Club, Tweed Heads
Saturday July 24 - "Splendour In The Grass" Festival, Byron Bay

June 23, 2004
9.00am

APOLOGIES!

The Dissociatives were unable to perform at Sawtell RSL last night as Daniel Johns had a very sore throat which prevented him from singing. While all patrons were given refunds and a person apology from the promoter the band would like to apologize to everyone for the inconvenience this caused.

Every attempt was made for the show to proceed. All the equipment was set up and the band even did a soundcheck but it quickly became apparent that Daniel's voice just wasn't 'up to scratch'. Rather than putting on a vocally substandard show and risking harm to his throat, a decision was made to cancel the date and accept the financial consequences.

Daniel has received medical advice that his condition is definitely temporary and is quite common during winter. At this stage tonight's show in Brisbane and all other shows over the coming weeks are still proceeding as planned.

We will post a further update later today.

As the air cools and the clouds come tumbling in, it is easy to think that you may need to wait until next summer for events that guarantee memories and ooze with charm and majesty .. the sort of shows where you claim to have seen the light or felt a tingle down your spine or simply thought, "this is SOOOO good!"...

Well .. this winter Western Australia is in luck !!!

Two of Australia's most inspired, successful and unique acts, JOHN BUTLER TRIO and The DISSOCIATIVES, have combined their resources and touring schedules to create a very special series of shows under a heated big top at the University of Western Australia on the magnificent lawns of James Oval.
This is the WINTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL ! It's aim is to provide brilliant music, inspirational surroundings, fantastic production and a beautiful atmosphere.

Tuesday June 29th The Dissociatives perform with special guests Little Birdy and The Presets as part of this special event.

**** Dino Scatena, Rolling Stone

“This is an album that’s hard not to love.”

11th December 2003

MEET THE DISSOCIATIVES

Daniel Johns and Paul Mac have officially announced the birth of their new band - The Dissociatives.

The pair spent about two months together this year, with writing and recording stints in London, Sydney and Newcastle.

The first fruit of these sessions will be revealed when the debut single from The Dissociatives – a song called “Somewhere Down The Barrel” - premieres on Australian radio in February 2004. This will be followed by the Australian release of their self-titled, self-produced, album around April.

Daniel and Paul have also announced that they plan to bring some other like-minded musicians on board for a series of tour dates later next year.

The first seeds of The Dissociatives were sown back in 1997 after Paul remixed Silverchair’s song, “Freak”. At the time Daniel and his bandmates were enjoying their second multiplatinum album and Paul had already racked up a decade in the vanguard of Australian dance music. In 1998, Paul was asked to add “noises” to Silverchair’s third disc, “Neon Ballroom”. Not long after that, he and Daniel began dabbling together in their home studios (the ‘accidental’ results were eventually released as the online EP “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Rock”). Paul was also an integral part of Silverchair’s acclaimed “Diorama” album – performing piano on six songs and guesting with the band during their ARIA Awards performance last year.

The pair’s decision to form The Dissociatives grew out of all these experiences and the fast friendship that formed as a result.

Both Daniel and Paul definitely see their new band as “more than just a side project”. They recently shot a video for “Somewhere Down The Barrel” and they are both focusing completely on releasing their album and touring next year.

While they plan to work separately on other projects in late 2004 and 2005, they hope to eventually make more albums as The Dissociatives.

“Somewhere Down The Barrel” and “The Dissociatives” will be released in Australia and South East Asia by Eleven: a music company through Virgin/EMI. Overseas release plans are yet to be finalized.
